Horticultural Therapist-Garden Workshop Leader

Senior Organic Gardeners (SOG) is seeking a passionate gardener and compassionate person to reach out to seniors staying at home this summer to lead virtual garden workshops via online conferencing software. In addition, the candidate would complete garden visits and in person workshops should COVID-19 restrictions be lifted.  Candidate will report weekly to SOG Leadership and will liaise with and support seniors’ programs and gardeners throughout the Ottawa Area.

The ideal candidate would:

  • Be passionate about helping people produce their own food in any and all circumstances;
  • Understand and have experience in urban gardening in small spaces including: balcony gardening; raised bed gardening; container gardening;
  • Be committed to organic principles, but flexible in approach to encourage gardeners to explore organics in a non-intimidating manner;
  • Have a diploma or degree in any of the following: horticulture; agriculture; plant science; horticultural therapy; or a combination of social work and/or education qualifications and garden or horticultural experience;
  • Experience in program management or delivery to seniors or youth;
  • Experience in workshop development and delivery;
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • High level of comfort working with online technologies.
  • Access to a vehicle; physically able to assist in gardens/deliver materials.
  • Ability to work from home office

This position will run from June 15 to September 15.  This is a part-time contract position with Canadian Organic Growers for SOG program deliverables.  Candidates can set their own hours but must be available weekdays and live in Ottawa, Provide References and Police check.
