With the onset of colder weather, Senior Organic Gardeners winter programming has begun. In November, the first of three horticultural therapy bags was delivered to thirty participants. Each bag included a houseplant, narcissus bulbs for forcing, and all the materials needed to grow them. The December delivery will feature hyacinth and amaryllis bulbs, among other seasonal treats.
SOG extends heartfelt thanks to Rita for coordinating these deliveries and for getting this year’s book club selections into members’ hands. This year’s titles include The Book of Hope by Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams, Ten Tomatoes That Changed the World by William Alexander, Herbs in Every Season by Bevin Cohen, and The Backyard Bird Journal by Amy Tan.
We are also grateful to Ritchie’s Feed and Seed and Singing Pebble Books for sourcing our supplies at a discount. A big thank you to the funders at the Seniors Community Grant office for giving SOG the opportunity to continue its work.
