Being good stewards of the land is central to our farming practices. We want rich, healthy soil; a beautiful abundance of biodiversity; a healthy, functional watershed; carbon-sequestering living plants for as much of the season as possible. We aim for this land to be healthier and more vibrant with each season that passes.
Certified organic by TCO Cert, we have been providing our local community with flavourful, nutrient-dense meats and sheepswool for a decade. We offer 100% grassfed lamb; 100% grass-fed beef; forest-raised pork; organic, pastured eggs; raw natural honey; wool and sheepskins.
Icelandic sheep are our cornerstone. The sheep fit the landscape perfectly – they are excellent 100% grass-fed performers, yielding nutrient-dense and beautifully flavoured meat. Meanwhile, their beautiful wool is transformed into versatile yarns and luxurious sheepskins. Certified organic, registered Icelandic breeding stock is also available.
We’re part of a collective of three local farms marketing our meats together at the Wakefield Farmers’ Market – le Trio Viandes. Working together makes sense, and we are always looking for more innovative ways to collaborate with our fellow farmers – this way we all get stronger, farmer and eater alike.
Not only do horses make a valuable contribution to our multi-species regenerative grazing and help with some farm jobs, but they provide an opportunity for our community (and our kids) to develop mind-changing horsemanship skills. Our innovative community-shared horsemanship model enables more of these relationships and brings more people onto the farm to connect with the land.
We feel a deep sense of responsibility in continuing the tradition of humans knowing the land intimately, but also recognize how lucky we are to be able to do so. It’s our great joy to welcome our community to connect with the land as well.
Host Christophe Marineau-Mes, at Champignon Le Coprin
On this tour, the group can expect a comprehensive visit of our facility with plenty of details on how we integrate the whole growing process from sorting out strains and maintaining proper genetics in our cultures, making substrate, growing various crops that require different care, to harvesting, packing and delivering the product.
Host Thea Pratt, at Ferme Northslope Farm
This is a certified organic U-pick haskap and blueberry farm. Features of our farm practices include concentrating on improving plant health through bed preparation, keeping track of invasive weeds, and finding alternatives to using plastic. We are also establishing a wine production business.
Folks will be invited to pick organic blueberries after the tour, if they like. Please use these directions to our farm because our address on Google bypasses it.
